Jun 12, 2010. Gasland, winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize for Documentaries, will be shown at Cinemapolis on Saturday June 12. When filmmaker Josh Fox discovers that Natural Gas drilling is coming to his area - the Catskillls/Poconos region of Upstate New York and Pennsylvania, he sets off on a 24 state journey to uncover the deep consequences of the United States' natural gas drilling boom. What he uncovers is truly shocking - water that can be lit on fire right out of the sink, chronically ill residents of drilling areas from disparate locations in the US all with the same mysterious symptoms, huge pools of toxic waste that kill cattle and vegetation well blowouts and huge gas explosions consistently covered up by state and federal regulatory agencies. These are just a few of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called Gasland. Josh Fox will be here in person to answer questions after the film viewings. Tickets will go on sale at Cinemapolis after May 21, $10/seat, benefit for Shaleshock. Between the matinee at 1 p.m. and the evening showing at 6 p.m. is a Rally on the Commons with local music and community leaders addressing the question, "What are we, Chopped Liver?" The title refers to the recent decision by the DEC to exempt the New York City and Syracuse watersheds from generic permitting through the SGEIS. All of NY water supplies deserve the same protections. |   Report Update
